McCracken County Schools Superintendent Josh Hunt appointed Jonathan Smith as the new principal of McCracken County High School (MCHS) today.

In 2007, Smith kick-started his career as a classroom teacher at Paducah Tilghman High School. By 2014, his leadership skills and innovative approach to education earned him the role of assistant principal of curriculum. During his time as assistant principal, he played a crucial part in overseeing curriculum development, instructional strategies, and state accountability assessments that helped shape the school’s academic success. He also led the school’s football team as the head coach from 2018-2021. In 2021, Smith became a teacher at McCracken County High School. By 2022, he took on the role of head football coach, bringing his dedication to education and athletics to McCracken County.

“My family and I are beyond grateful for McCracken County Public Schools, and there are no words to express my excitement about the opportunity to collaborate with the many amazing people in our school and community,” Smith said. “We have some of the most intelligent, well-rounded, and talented students in the state of Kentucky who are educated and supported by some of the best professionals in education. Smith earned a Bachelor’s degree in middle school education from Murray State University followed by a Master’s degree in education administration from the University of the Cumberlands.
