Dylan Sonnek

McCracken County High School (MCHS) Principal Jonathan Smith announced Dylan Sonnek as the newest addition to the MCHS leadership team, stepping into the role of assistant principal.

With a wealth of experience as the Director of Exceptional Children Programs for McCracken County Schools, Sonnek brings a proven track record of dedication and innovation to his new position. His leadership and commitment to student success make him an ideal candidate to fill the shoes of current MCHS Assistant Principal Angie Woods, who will be retiring on July 1st.

In 2012, Sonnek embarked on his professional journey as a special education teacher in the Calloway County School District. After four years, he transitioned to the McCracken County School District, where he served as a special education teacher at Hendron-Lone Oak Elementary. Demonstrating his dedication and leadership capabilities, he assumed the role of Assistant Principal at Reidland Middle in 2020. Building on his expertise, he then moved to the Central Office in 2022, undertaking the pivotal position of Director of Exceptional Children Programs.

“I've truly cherished my time serving as the Director of Exceptional Children Programs and I am grateful for the invaluable experience gained while collaborating with the senior leadership team at the central office,” said Sonnek. “While I've enjoyed my time in this role, I'm excited to return to a school setting. Collaborating with colleagues and directly impacting students' lives is something I'm looking forward to.”

“MCHS is extremely excited to welcome Mr. Sonnek to our school!  He has an unbelievable presence, an extensive knowledge of many systems we already have in place, and a proven track record of successful leadership," said Smith. “I look forward to hearing his innovative ideas, and I am excited about everything he brings to the table to continue our path of excellence!”

Sonnek holds a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education/Special Education and two Master’s degrees in Reading & Writing Specialist and Education Administration, all from Murray State University.
