Campus Police Spotlight: Rene Long

Officer Rene Long is the School Resource Officer (SRO) at Concord Elementary School.  He can be found patrolling the hallways and perimeter of his school every day while class is in session, often stopping for hugs and high fives.  He may even be spotted on occasion opening juice boxes or tying shoes in the cafeteria.  His favorite part of being an SRO is spending time around the students and seeing their smiling faces.

“I love knowing that they are comfortable with me being in their school,” explained Long.  “I made it a goal early on to get to know all of the staff and students so they would feel safe with me around.  On top of that, I want to make sure the school is safe and all safety procedures are being followed.”

Campus Police Chief Austin Guill routinely relies on Officer Long’s dedication and experience to make Concord Elementary a safer place.

Guill said, “I know the staff and students at Concord are in great hands.  Officer Long is one of the most dependable officers in this district, and he will never make compromises when it comes to student safety.”

Echoing Guill’s sentiment, Concord Elementary School Principal Jeffery Sturm noted that “Officer Long does a tremendous job keeping our students and staff safe.  We love him being a part of our school.”

Officer Long is married with two daughters and two grandsons.  He is a graduate of Massac County High School.  Before coming to McCracken County Public Schools, Officer long worked for the Paducah Police Department and Paducah Independent Schools.  Fishing is his favorite hobby, but he has also enjoyed training and showing dogs in the past.  His favorite meal is a steak from Doe’s Eat Place.
