The McCracken County School District is pleased to announce that Jimmy Johnson will serve as the Director of Technology, effective July 1. Johnson brings nearly three decades of experience in education, including 18 years of leadership experience to this importation position.
Johnson began his career as an elementary teacher at Cooper-Whiteside Elementary School in Paducah, where he developed a passion for integrating instructional strategies with emerging educational technologies. His leadership journey began when he was named Principal of Smithland Elementary School in Livingston County, a role in which he successfully implemented schoolwide instructional initiatives and fostered a positive school culture.
In 2004, Johnson joined McCracken County in 2004 as the Principal of Farley Elementary School. Over the years, he has continued to serve the district in a variety of instructional and administrative roles, including as a teacher at Concord Elementary School and, since 2016, as Assistant Principal of Lone Oak Elementary School. His time in these positions has been marked by a commitment to student achievement, teacher support, and the integration of technology into classroom instruction.
Throughout his 29-year career in education, Johnson has cultivated a unique blend of instructional expertise and operational insight. He has consistently demonstrated the ability to bridge the gap between classroom needs and district-level support, particularly in the realm of technology. His understanding of both the instructional and technical aspects of education will be invaluable as he leads the district’s technology initiatives.
As Director of Technology, Johnson will oversee the district’s technology infrastructure, including planning and implementation of educational technology, systems maintenance, and ensuring access to digital tools for all students and staff. His leadership will play a key role in supporting innovative teaching practices, strengthening cybersecurity measures, and ensuring that the district remains at the forefront of 21st-century learning.
Superintendent Josh Hunt expressed his support for Johnson as the Director of Technology, saying, “I am confident that Mr. Johnson’s experience, leadership, and vision will be a tremendous asset in advancing the district’s technology goals and enhancing the learning experience for all students.”
“I’m honored to step into the role of Director of Technology. I look forward to partnering with school leaders to ensure our technology platforms are safe, secure, and reliable,” said Johnson. Together, we’ll keep the district running efficiently and stay ahead in an ever-evolving digital landscape."
Johnson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and a Master of Arts in School Administration, both from Murray State University.
