McCracken County’s offensive lineman Brody Phelps will continue his academic and athletic career at Murray State University next fall. The Racers announced eight signings during the December signing period, which included the senior Mustang.

“For me to continue football at the collegiate level is truly a blessing,” Phelps said. “The idea that I would play college football has been in my mind since freshman year, but I understood I wanted to play somewhere after high school during my junior year.”

Phelps began his high school career with McCracken County in 2020 as a freshman under the guidance of former head coach Marc Clark before Jonathan Smith took control in 2022. Phelps made his varsity debut on August 21, 2021, against Paducah Tilghman. As a sophomore, Phelps appeared in 10 games for the Mustangs.

“I’ve been playing football for 11 years,” he said. “Murray stood out to me because they want to make me better not only as a football player but also as a man, teammate, peer, and eventually husband and father.”

During his junior year, Phelps collected one tackle and one for loss, appearing in 11 games for McCracken County. In his final season as a Mustang, he appeared in 13 games as a senior, finishing with one fumble recovery, five solo tackles, nine assisted tackles, 14 total tackles, and three TFLs.

Phelps is a two-time All-WKC First Team member and an All-Purchase Region First Team member. The Mustangs finished with a 6-7 win-loss record for the 2023 fall season.
