For the third time this season, the McCracken County Lady Mustang and Bowling Green Purples will meet on the hardwood. The first meeting resulted in a 46-30 win in the Queen of the Commonwealth tournament early in the year and the second was a narrow 53-50 loss one month ago.
While the Queen of the Commonwealth game was on a big stage, this third meeting’s game is much more important. The Lady Mustangs will look to make the series 2-1 Friday morning when they take on the Purples in the Elite Eight matchup of the KHSAA State Tournament.
“Bowling Green has been a staple up here for many, many years,” McCracken County head coach Scott Sivills said. “They are very well coached and they played some very tough teams the last five to seven games of the year and that gave their kids a lot of confidence.”
McCracken County was one of those tough matchups late in the year as the Lady Mustangs traveled to Bowling Green for that contest.
“Going to Bowling Green and playing there is very tough,” Sivills said. “We were in that game and had a chance to win it, we just couldn’t buy the last shot. We are very familiar with them. We won one and we lost one so this will be a very good matchup.”
Bowling Green enters Friday morning’s game after a 46-44 win over Owsley County on Wednesday morning, while McCracken County comes in with a 50-33 win over Russell.
Tip-off is set for 10 a.m. CST Friday morning at Rupp Arena in Lexington.
