The McCracken County boys track and field team saw 10 top five finishes over the weekend while competing in the Kirkwood High School Cobra Classic in Clarksville, TN. Those top finishes, along with a plethora of other strong performances, helped the Mustangs to a first place team finish.

A total of 85 points were earned for the top finish. According to head coach Steven Spadafino, three school records were broken, three seasons best relay performances and 16 personal records were reached. Those school records came from a first place finish by Cannon Ford in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.77, a second place finish by Caleb Joyce in the 400 meter dash at 49.96 and a first place finish in the 4x200 meter relay with a time of 1:29.85.

The relay teams has an especially strong day, clinching first place finishes in the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 meter relays while also landing a seventh place podium spot in the 4x800.

The 200 meter dash was dominated by a pair of Mustangs. James Barragan finished on top with a 21.51 and Cooper Falconite came in third at 22.25.

Additionally, the Lady Mustangs saw five top five finishes with several stellar performances from Lezharia Bolen. The youngster took first place in the 100 meter dash at 12.60, second in the 200 meter at 25.82 and third in the 400 meter at 1:02.39.

The other top five finishes came courtesy of Janea Reed who took fifth in both the discus and shot put with distances of 74-10 and 30-3.5 respectively.

Fellow western Kentucky school, Marshall County, also made the trip to Clarksville, finding their own success. Across the boys and girls teams, Marshall County saw 11 top five finishes.

Addison Lyles had a strong day, claiming third place finishes in the 800 meter run at 2:30.27 and third in the 1600 meter run at 5:25.96. Eden Sandlin wasn’t far behind in the 1600, finishing fifth with a time of 5:55.25.

For the Marshals, Kobey Yates and Deegan Croley both found first place finishes. Yates finished first in the 3200 meter run with a time of 9:50.13 and Croley took first in the discus and shot put with distances of 148-4 and 47-9.5 respectively.
