With the 2024 high school tennis season nearing its end, an important match between McCracken County and Paducah Tilghman High Schools took place Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Mustangs continued their dominance, closing out a perfect 5-0 win over the Lady Blue Tornado, while the Mustangs beat out the Tornado in a more narrow 3-2 win.
On the boys side, McCracken held strong in singles play, securing all three wins, while Tilghman secured their two wins in doubles action. In singles play, Aaron Lundberg defeated Whitson McNeill 6-4, 6-2, Hutch Crabtree beat Leyton Morris 6-4, 6-1 and Hayden Taylor won 6-3, 6-1 over TJ Duwe.
In doubles action, Cameron Wright and Alex McMillan defeated Luke Braboy 6-4, 7-6, while Tate Kirchoff and Wilson Brown fought hard for a 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 win over Holden Hagan and Conner Campbell.
On the girls side, the Lady Mustangs ran the table. Pratha Patel defeated Alex Anderson 6-0, 6-1, Cassidy Parker beat Addison Winklepeck 6-0, 6-0 and Alex Poore beat Bailey Beyer 6-0, 6-0 all in singles play.
In doubles action Amelia Lundberg and Mariane Puertollano doubled up to take on Maddie Duwe and Lucy DeBuhn 6-2, 4-6, 10-3, while Kennedy O’Neal and Madison McKinney beat Sophie McMillan and Jane Taylor 6-1, 6-0.
McCracken County will wrap up regular season play at Marshall County on Tuesday, May 7, while the match on Thursday was the last for Paducah Tilghman, leaving plenty of practice time before the First Region tournament.
