The remaining female tennis players got one step closer to individual and doubles championships Wednesday afternoon as the First Region semifinals took place at the Larry J. Heflin Tennis Center in Lone Oak.

Marshall County, St. Mary, Paducah Tilghman, McCracken County, Graves County and Mayfield had athletes represent them on the courts.

Duos of Cassidy Parker and Alex Poore from McCracken County, Maddie Duwe and Christian Anderson from Tilghman, JC Wells and Delaney Miller from Marshall and Olivia O’Neill and Mason Clements from St. Mary made up doubles action. The St. Mary duo of Clements and O’Neill was originally reported in the Wednesday morning paper stating they had lost, which was incorrect.

In singles action No. 1 seed Sophie Hollowell took on Graves County’s Ellie Swift and No. 3 seed Pratha Patel took on No. 2 seed Molly Null.

Doubles action:

McCracken County’s Cassidy Parker and Alex Poore defeated Paducah Tilghman’s Maddie Duwe and Christian Anderson 6-1, 6-3.

St. Mary’s Mason Clements and Olivia O’Neill defeated Marshall County’s JC Wells and Delaney Miller and needed a tiebreaker 6-3, 4-6, 10-5.

Parker/Poore and O’Neill/Clements will face off in the girls’ doubles championship Thursday afternoon. at 4 p.m.

ophie Hollowell defeated Ellie Swift 6-0, 6-0 while Molly Null defeated Pratha Patel 6-1, 6-0.

No. 1 Hollowell and No. 2 Null will battle for the individual title Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m.

Everyone that competed in semifinals action will advance to the state tournament taking place in Lexington May 28-30.
