Individual and doubles play of the girls’ First Region tennis tournament wrapped up Thursday afternoon at the Larry J. Heflin Tennis Center in Lone Oak.
McCracken County junior Sophie Hollowell defended her singles title, claiming her second straight First Region Singles Championship with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Mayfield senior Molly Null. The match was a repeat of the 2023 singles championship where Hollowell won 6-0, 6-3.
In doubles action, McCracken County freshman Cassidy Parker and eighth grader Alex Poore, took on St. Mary’s Olivia O’Neill and Mason Clements. Last season Parker and Poore finished as runners-up to teammates Lilli Smith and Pratha Patel. This year they rewrote the script, coming out as doubles champions in a 6-3, 6-0 victory.
While individual play is over, team play has yet to wrap up. The McCracken County Lady Mustangs will take on the Mayfield Lady Cardinals in team action on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Lone Oak.
