On Thursday night, the McCracken County Lady Mustangs opened up the fall volleyball season on the newly renovated Strawberry Hills Pharmacy Arena gymnasium, hosting the visiting St. Mary Lady Vikings. With a 25-4, 25-6 two-set sweep, the Lady Mustangs continued where the program left off last season.

“I’m proud of the girls,” McCracken County head coach Chancie Coleman said. “It was a great way to start the season with a district win on our home court.”

The McCracken County squad took a hefty lead in the first set with Taylor Dugan, Reagan Hill, and Reese Romine serving—by the time St. Mary took a timeout, the Lady Mustang led 15-2 in the district contest. The Lady Vikings collected the team’s third point as Romine’s serve landed into the netting. However, McCracken County continued to pressure and pull ahead with senior duo Elizabeth Gilbert and Addison Hart, resulting in a 25-4 win.

In the second and final set of the matchup, the Lady Mustangs went on an electric run despite St. Mary attempting to halt the momentum staying on the home side of the hardwood. Hart, who finished the night with seven spikes, never missed a beat, tallying three blocks. Gilbert tallied six spikes and one ace in the win. The Lady Mustangs’ defense held the Lady Vikings to six points in the second set despite a strong outing from Alyssa Carter, Elly Mowers, and Abby Sullivan.

UP NEXT: The McCracken County Lady Mustangs will host the Paducah Tilghman Lady Blue Tornado (0-2) the following Monday at Strawberry Hills Pharmacy Arena. The St. Mary Lady Vikings will head to Carlisle County this weekend to face South Fulton (TN) and Mayfield.
