Over the weekend, the McCracken County Lady Mustang soccer program competed in the Gatlinburg Smoky Mountain Cup. The weekend went off without a hitch as the Lady Mustangs remain undefeated, finishing the weekend with two wins and a tie—moving the record to 6-0-1.

“This is the best team I have been a part of at McCracken during the six years I have been here,” McCracken County assistant coach Todd Stewart said.

During the first game, the Lady Mustangs faced Bartlett (TN) and defeated their opponent in a 4-1 battle. Maddy Ledgerwood led the team with two of the four goals—one assisted by Ashlyn Blackwell. Makenzie Burgett scored on a direct kick, and Katelyn Heider sent one scorching past the goalkeeper to round out the four goals for the McCracken squad.

In the second game, McCracken County defeated the University School of Jackson (TN) 2-0. Addison Smith collected the shutout while patrolling the goal for the Lady Stangs. Heider and Ledgerwood sank the two goals for the win. Heider claimed the assist in the stat book with Ledgerwood’s goal during the contest.

The Lady Mustangs finished a 3-3 tie against Pope John Paul III (TN) to wrap up the weekend. The three goals came courtesy of Ledgerwood (assisted by Heider twice and one unassisted). Overall, Ledgerwood led the team throughout the weekend with six goals.

Heider finished her weekend with two goals and three assists, Burgett tallied one goal, and the Lady Mustang defense of Audrey Haley, Ava Englert, Anahi Mendoza, Kiera Tynes, Heather Mendoza, Harper Barabas, and Burgett kept the McCracken County’s squad’s early season record unblemished.
