The McCracken County girls soccer team traveled to Bowling Green over the weekend to take on the No. 3 ranked Purples at ‘The Pit’. With the Lady Mustangs looking to keep their record unblemished and Bowling Green looking to maintain their high rank, the two teams battled through what would end in a 2-2 draw.
Bowling Green struck first, finding the back of the net within the fist three minutes of action. Maddy Ledgerwood answered right back with the help of Makenzie Burgett with a long ball to tie it up 1-1.
The back-and-forth continued as the Purples took the lead back, but Ledgerwood would have the final say in the matter. With seven minutes remaining Kiera Tynes sent a long through ball to Ledgerwood who then pushed it passed two defenders and hit a screamer over the keeper to tie the game.
McCracken out shot the Purples nine to five. Trinity McDonough came up with several clutch saves. Anahi Mendoza saved a Purple shot within the final minutes by clearing it past McDonough.
“We needed the entire bench on this one, because it was so hot,” McCracken County head coach Michael Lane said. “This group is fun to watch and continue to improve game to game. We have played all of our games away, so we are excited to have a home game this Tuesday. It is much needed. The girls have handled the adversity of being on the road.”
