The McCracken County boys soccer team defeated Graves County in a shutout 8-0 on Tuesday night. This improved their record to 6-4-6 and 6-1-1 in region play. The Mustang defense proved overwhelming to Graves County as the Eagles were unable to find the back of the net.
The Mustangs stayed on brand in the philosophy all season, with six different goal scorers. They have been excellent spreading the ball around and being unselfish with it. They got hot early, with four goals in the first 15 minutes on the night’s matchup. One of these was a great shot by Brady Hayden after a pass from a corner kick. Hayden scored the second and third goals for the Mustangs, also marking his second and third goals of the season.
“We want to win the region,” Hayden said. “We’ve seen a lot of teams that have lined up in state, so it was good to see what they looked like.”
Dawson Beyer also knocked in two for the Mustangs. He started the scoring for his team in the second minute and finished it with the eighth team goal right after halftime.
Grave County gets Wednesday off but then returns again to their home field to take on Marshall County on Thursday. The Mustangs travel to Madisonville-North Hopkins on Saturday to take on the Maroons.
McCracken County has had a better stretch of games compared to their start of the season. Since the start of September they are 4-1-3, which is a huge improvement compared to their 1-2-1 start. This team has the chance to truly come together at the end of the season and make a splash going into tournament play.
