The McCracken County Lady Mustangs held their senior night in a Thursday night matchup against Paducah Tilghman. The seniors honored were Ashlyn Blackwell, Audrey Haley, Katelyn Heider, Payton Ledgerwood, Brooklyn Lowery, Savannah McDowell, and Heather Mendoza. Four of the seniors scored in McCracken’s 10-0 win.
“This is my first group of seniors that I’ve had for four years, so it’s special to me to see them play and some of them to get a goal tonight,” Lady Mustangs head coach Mike Lane said.
Senior Savannah McDowell netted the first two goals for the Mustangs, both coming in the first dozen minutes of the game. These two goals got McDowell into the double digit mark for goals on the season, getting her ninth and 10th here tonight.
Ashlyn Blackwell shined in this match as well. She found the back of the net a spectacular four times in just 40 minutes of match time. Blackwell was only at three goals for the season before tonight, bringing her tally to seven.
Katelyn Heider and Audrey Haley were the other two seniors to score in this one. Heider has been very successful and is second in goals scored for the Lady Mustangs. Haley has been better in the passing game so far, tallying three assists to her teammates.
McCracken took care of business in just one half, securing the mercy rule win against Tilghman for the second time this season. The Lady Mustangs have some tough opponents coming up within the next week. They will face Henderson County this Saturday followed by Calloway County and Madison-North Hopkins next Thursday.
“We have to keep this same level of play. We are going to be challenged, and we need to be challenged,” Lane said. “Our main goal is winning regionals and getting back to state.”
