The McCracken County Lady Mustangs put on yet another dominant performance over a fellow First Region opponent Monday night when they took on the St. Mary Lady Vikings in the opening game of the Second District tournament.
McCracken has yet to drop a set to a regional opponent all season and wasn’t about to start Monday, as they took care of business in three sets, (25-12, 25-7, 25-16).
After taking the first set handily, the Lady Vikings started the second with a quick 2-0 lead. Sophomore Caroline Presswood would take control of service for the Lady Mustangs, helping her team to an 8-2 lead with the help of several well-placed aces. They wouldn’t look back from there, going on to take a 25-7 set win.
St. Mary bounced back in the third set, tallying 16 points in an effort to keep their season alive for at least one more set, but ultimately fell 25-16 to end their season.
With the victory, the Lady Mustangs will take on Community Christian Academy for the Second District Championship, a title they have earned 11 years in a row and they have their eyes on their 12th.
Both McCracken County and CCA will not only play for the district title, but will both advance to the regional tournament next week.
