This past weekend the Region 1 bowling tournament took place at Cardinal Lanes here in Paducah. Friday was the singles portion of the tournament, and the boys bowled first. The boy's division had over 80 kids bowling with the top 4 going to State. Dexter Pacheco bowled great but just missed the cut by one spot finishing in 5th . In the afternoon, the girls' singles took place with over 50 bowlers. After it was all said and done, Riley Ramage finished 6th and Cailyn Grant finished 4th. Cailyn will be the first girl to compete in State in the singles division in the bowling programs history.

On Saturday, 19 region 1 teams bowled in the boy division for a chance to go to State. After qualifying, the boys were seeded 2nd. They went on to beat 18 seed Barron County 3-0, and then faced number 7 seed Warren East. The Mustangs swept Warren East to advance to the Final Four where they bowled the defending Region 1 Champs Owensboro. After dropping a game, they won the rest to advance to State and bowl for the Championship. In the championship match they met the number 4 seed, Apollo. McCracken won 3 to 1 to become your Region 1 Champions once again. They will bowl on Monday, February 10th in Louisville in the State Championships.
On Saturday afternoon the girls' team got their chance to bowl. After qualifying, they seeded 2nd and bowled Warren East in their first match. The Mustangs won 3-0 to advance to the semi-finals. In the semi-finals the Mustangs met the team that beat them in the finals last season, South Warren. This time the Lady Mustangs got a little pay back and won 3 to 1 to advance to the Region 1 Championship once again. In the finals they met our neighbor to the south and number 1 seed Graves County. The Lady Mustangs jumped out quick with a 2 to nothing lead, but Graves squeaked out a win in the 3rd game 235-224 to grab a game. Unfortunately, Graves won the next two games to take the match, and your Lady Mustangs are your Region 1 Runner-ups. They too will bowl at State on Tuesday, February 11th at Kingpin in Louisville.
