News from West Kentucky Community & Technical College
McCracken County High School teacher recognized for KCTCS award
Chris Jones, a history teacher at McCracken County High School, was recently honored with a 2024 KCTCS Pathfinder Award for his dedication to student success. Representing one of 16 Kentucky high school teachers or counselors recognized by the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS), Jones was surprised with the award during a special ceremony in his classroom on April 19, by representatives from West Kentucky Community and Technical College.
"This award means everything. It means that I'm making a difference to students' futures, their careers," said Jones. "Education is about academics, yes, but also it's about character development, and you try to create good people that are educated, and try to inspire them to have a better life and a better future."
Jones, a graduate of Reidland High School, class of 1993, continued his education at Paducah Community College (now WKCTC), where he excelled academically and athletically. Jones continued his education at Murray State University, graduating in 1999, and began his teaching career at Lone Oak Middle School that fall. He moved to Reidland Middle School in 2009, before eventually finding his teaching home at McCracken County High School in 2014.
Throughout his career, Jones has been dedicated to creating an environment where students feel valued, empowered, and inspired to reach their full potential. By teaching and modeling good character-building traits, he strives to instill in his students a sense of responsibility, integrity, and empathy, shaping them into not only better learners but better individuals.

At McCracken County High School, students can complete many different pathways. Phlebotomy is one of those!
Yesterday, this Health Science group hosted a Phlebotomy Family/Friends Night!
It is best practice for students to participate in a work-based learning experience. Students in this course learn by a combination of classroom and hands-on experiences related to the student’s education objectives in the area of Medical Laboratory Aide/Phlebotomist. Students may be eligible to take the National Health Career Association Phlebotomy Tech certification exam upon successfully completing the course. #McCrackenProud

Congratulations to Essay Contest Winners: Conner Stevens (11), Brennen Hartman (9), and Sophie Hollowell (11).
The Fleet Reserve Association hosts an annual essay contest for an opportunity to win a $1,500 grand prize. This is for all students, grades 7-12. Students wrote an essay that was 350 words or less about "What Memorial Day means to Me". Dr. Aaron Beals of the FRA presented awards to Conner Stevens, Brennen Hartman, and Sophie Hollowell (not pictured due to Youth Lead Graduation). All three students won prizes at the District and Regional levels. Conner's essay was sent to Nationals and is being considered for a top prize. MCHS Head Principal Mr. Jonathan Smith and House 4 Counselor Mr. Jake Simmons are pictured with the FRA Members and awardees.
The Fleet Reserve Association is a community of the Sea Services; U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard personnel. FRA’s guiding principles are Loyalty, Protection and Service. MCHS is thankful for their continued support of our students and school community.
